On March 11, 2011, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake rocked northeast Japan. The earthquake triggered devastating tsunamis, which in turn set off the worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl.
Two years later, we look back at the carnage: Nearly 16,000 deaths, about 10,000 injured, more than 3,000 people missing; more than 125,000 buildings totally collapsed; more than 250,000 buildings “half-collapsed”; another 365,750 buildings partially damaged.
As we look back at the destruction — entire villages, washed away — hit play on the Life & Death theme from Lost and shake your head at Mother Nature.
